Midsummer Ceilidh
Profits donated to Unicef
2011 was SCA’s first midsummer ceilidh. It was a dance evening party that focused on the Scottish tradition of ceilidh dancing (pronounced kaylee). During a ceilidh people gather together, for example on a long Scottish winter’s night. Traditionally there would be stories told, songs sung and music made. Now a days, there is also a dance included.
Our ceilidh was being held on the longest Saturday evening of the year. There was live music from the ceilidh band Star of the North which made the evening very festive. The dances included the Cumberland Reel and Strip the Willow and everyone was up and dancing!
Every dance was explained, step by step, by the professional ‘caller’. Even people who never danced before had a great time. And all was for a good cause as profits (250 euro) was donated to Unicef. The SCA received a letter of thanks form Unicef.
